Long Beach Police Department
IT IS THE MISSION OF THE LONG BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR COMMUNITY, TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE LIVES AND PROPERTY OF THE CITIZENS IN OUR JURISDICTION BY PROFESSIONALLY, FAIRLY AND ETHICALLY UPHOLDING OUR SWORN DUTIES. WE PLEDGE TO REMAIN COMMITTED TO THIS MISSION AND TAKE PRIDE IN AND PROVIDE EXCELLENCE IN OUR SERVICE.
POLICE WEEK 2006
The Town of Long Beach lies along the Southern shores of Lake Michigan. Long Beach has approximately 2000 full-time residents, however the population may triple during the summer months. Our Department also provides Police protection to two other communities, Duneland Beach and Michiana Shores.
The Long Beach Police Department consists of five full-time officers, including Chief Marshal and Chief Deputy. We employ part-time officers who work as full-time officers in neighboring communities like Michigan City and LaPorte County. We also utilize a reserve program. We currently have an allotment for five reserve officers. Reserve officers carry all the authority of a full-time officer. Our regular duties include patrol and investigations. During the summer months we operate a marine unit using a Boston Whaler and beach patrol with a Bombardier 4-wheel ATV. Our Department is close knit and even though we are small in numbers we have seen our share of tragedy.
