Lakeshore Drive Protective Measures

On Wednesday, Dec 18, emergency sandbagging operations will take place at Stop 21 for 2060 Lakeshore Drive.  In order to get the sandbags to the proper location, a 165 ton crane will be used, which will cause some traffic disruption at times during the day.

Signage will be placed where necessary to allow traffic to move around the site.

Additional Work Recently Completed

Previous shoring work conducted within the last month required lane restrictions and temporary road closures for a portion of Lakeshore Drive near Stop 23.

At the Stop 23 public access location, sections of the staircase and deck structure were removed due to high water, and sandbags were installed to prevent the undermining of Lakeshore Drive.

Additionally, at two homes immediately west of Stop 23, an emergency shoring/restraint system was installed to prevent the failed seawall in front of the two houses from collapsing.

Had the work not been completed, Lakeshore Drive may have been forced to be closed until a permanent measures to shore up and repair the street could be identified.

The Building Commissioner, with support from Town Officials and outside engineering expertise, continues to monitor the shoreline and roadway to get ahead of future potential issues.
