Seawall Repair Update

Dear Long Beach Residents,

A number of residents have expressed concerns about the pounding and vibrations being caused by the seawall repairs taking place at homes between stops 21 to 23. I’ve also heard that some residents have reported noticing new cracks in their structures.

The Town ordinances do allow repair to existing seawalls and the contractors (JCI Bridge and Thatcher Foundations) who were hired by the homeowners making the repairs, have posted bonds to cover potential damage to neighboring properties. The Town of Long Beach statutorily cannot give legal advice, but we do recommend that if you do feel you have suffered structural damage as a result of the seawall repair, you are encouraged to contact your insurance company or legal counsel of your choice.

Based on current information, we expect the heavy repair work at these homes will last through the next two weeks. Reducing the hours or days these contractors are able to work will only prolong the timing for completion.

I recognize this is a particularly bad time for this type of work, given the increased amount of time residents are at home, and I apologize for that. Please stay safe.

Thank you,

Robert LeMay MD, Long Beach Town Council President
