Update on Garbage Bins at Beach Stops

Town Council members, Park and Recreation Board members and the Town Clerk’s office have been receiving emails, texts and telephone calls regarding the email that was sent yesterday, pursuant to the Town Council’s unanimous decision to remove toters and enclosures from the beach stops. The email stated that the change would be implemented within a few weeks, which is not the case.

As stated in the Town Council meeting of July 13, 2020, the Park and Recreation Board has volunteered to manage the gradual roll out of this new policy, since it will be a big change for residents and visitors alike. The Park Board understands that this change will require a comprehensive communication plan for the balance of 2020. Implementation will be targeted when beach usage resumes in early spring of 2021.

Residents may voice opinions in upcoming Town Council meetings and at Park and Recreation Board meetings. The Park Board supports the council mandate and has been tasked with the implementation of this change; however, the decision remains the sole purview of the Long Beach Town Council.

One of the misconceptions that was related by some of our respondents was that the pictures reflected a one-time, holiday issue. The Town hall has been receiving complaints of over-burdened beach stop garbage since early June.
